TNT picks up 'Southland'

TNT has picked up Warner Bros.’ canceled sophomore drama “Southland.”  The cable network has obtained the exclusive rights to run the show’s six unaired episodes which were scheduled on NBC before the broadcaster unexpectedly axed the show.

TNT will air all 13 produced episodes of the John Wells drama, including its brief first season when it premiered as NBC’s midseason replacement last season. “Southland” will make its TNT debut on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 10 p.m.

By only committing to airing episodes that have already been produced, the deal minimizes TNT’s financial risk and allows the cable network to evaluate the success of the show before investing in a re-start of production.

This is great news to wake up to.

Even though there’s a catch to TNT picking up ‘Southland’, at least the second season will air and not be shelved indefinitely. Hopefully it will garner a steady audience on a cable network that doesn’t hinder the show’s mature content.
