"There’s one thing people have to understand: Comics are not happy clowns. They are dark people, all of them, no matter how they grow up or what color they are. Anyone who has devoted his life to comedy and making people laugh wants to see that joy reflected back at him by rooms full of people because he’s never seen that kind of happiness anywhere else. Comedians are comedians because they need that laughter and joy; it fills a hole in them. Some of them will never get that hole filled either. For some comics, no amount of success and no amount of laughter is enough - that pain can never be relieved, that emptiness can never be satisfied."
— Tracy Morgan (from his new book ‘I Am The New Black)

You gotta love when everything you’ve recently requested comes in at once. Plus this is on top of the fact I just bought the new Chuck Klosterman book the other day. Looks like I’m going to be getting my read in in the coming weeks.

It's like crack... for book nerds

Borders’ 40% off coupons do not help me cut down on buying graphic novels, or books in general. I’ve already been once this week, but seriously tempted to go back again today to pick up something else.

Currently reading | Dexter by Design by  Jeff Lindsay
It’s a hell of a lot better than the previous book, that’s for sure. Seems like Jeff Lindsay learned the hard way that taking Dexter in a supernatural direction was not a wise decision. Thankfully that’s been rectified (and retconned) and none of that mess is in this new Dexter tale.

First look: The new theatrical posters for ‘The Road’

Based off of the book of the same name by Cormac McCarthy, ‘The Road’ stars Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce.

‘The road’ was one of the most compelling books I’ve read in the last few years. I’m eagerly awaiting this film to see how such a oppressively bleak story translates onto the big screen.

‘The Road’ makes its way into theaters on October 16th 2009 .

Original ‘Reading Rainbow’ opening

All good things must come to an end

Reading Rainbow fades away this month
“PBS comes to the end of the Rainbow Aug. 28 [2009] when broadcast rights for one of the system’s longest-running kids’ programs expire, and Reading Rainbow leaves the network’s satellite feed.  Only Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood have had longer PBS kidvid careers. In 26 years, Reading Rainbow won 24 national Emmys, including 10 for best children’s series.”
Full story here.
Like many others, ‘Reading Rainbow’ was a fundamental part of my childhood literary experience. It really helped in expanding my appreciation for books of all types. Plus LeVar Burton kept it real without talking down to kids. Let’s all share a moment of silence for one of the best children’s programs, ever.
