One of the main reasons I wasn’t enthralled with the ipad after it’s launch announcement was that there was zero talk of comics being on the device. If there was news of Marvel or DC being eager to release comics on the ipad I would have heavily considered pre-ordering one.
As much as I love buying floppies each week at the comic shop, it wouldn’t take much to get me to buying digital comics. I have boxes of single issues I loved reading the first time through, but honestly… I’ll never touch a good deal of those comics again.
If digital comics were at the right price (99. cents an issue) and came out the same day as new issues at the comic shop, I would heavily consider buying the majority of my titles digitally, and then buying the ones I loved in trades or hardcover editions.
It’s good to see that there are people working hard to get comics on the ipad. The comics industry isn’t dying, but it’s not getting enough new readers to sustain the industry in the future.
I hate to say it, but digital comics is what is needed to keep the print medium industry of comics in business. Marvel & DC comics should have had ipad apps ready to launch the day the ipad was released. It’s disappointing to see it’s a third party working to save the comics industry and not one of the big two publishers.
